HONORING THE FALLEN

HONORING THE FALLEN

In 2014, we broke ground on a permanent public tribute to honor the Commonwealth’s brave servicemen and women who died while in service to our grateful nation. The Memorial is a powerful and refined beacon of light, where we welcome the Gold Star Families, as well as the general public from all over the world, to come together to reflect and honor our brave heroes.

Obelisk

The 50 foot obelisk, the Beacon Of Honor, is a powerful and refined beacon of light. A five-sided diaphanous column signifying the branches of the Service, looms above the trees in the park and reaches for the sky. During the day, the tower continuously reflects and refracts the waterfront’s changing light. At night, its internal illumination is visible from vantage points around Downtown Boston and the Harbor.

Construction

The memorial is a place where Gold Star Families, as well as the general public from all over the world, can come together to reflect and honor our brave heroes. Upon teaming up with Seaport Square developer John Hynes, Hacin + Associates, Boston Global Investors, and designer James Carpenter and Reed Hilderbrand (Landscape Architect), the 50-foot obelisk was unveiled and dedicated on May 27th, 2016.

Memorial Grove

The Memorial Grove stands in remembrance of our Veterans who have lost their lives to the invisible wounds of war and post-traumatic stress. Each tree representing life reminds us to never forget that in our daily life there are those still struggling to cope with loss and trauma. May we never forget the sacrifices of services.

Honor Block

Phase two of Seaport Common and the Mass Fallen Heroes Memorial will be the construction of Honor Block. Honor Block will be home to an Interactive Mass Fallen Heroes Memorial and Education. The space will highlight the real stories of service members lost. The space will be 2,000 sf and will act as a museum with interactive technology in order to promote a real connection to our heroes.

Our Fallen Heroes

The Memorial stands tall in Seaport Common and serves as a public space for reflection and remembrance of those who gave their lives fighting for our freedom in the Global War on Terrorism since September 11th, 2001. The names of 301 Massachusetts Fallen Heroes are displayed in chronological order on glass panels. If lost in Combat Operations, their location of death is also listed.
